"Sandhills Horse
Sense" |
"When the thrill
of working
with the horses fades,
the learning continues
long after the workshop!"

|
When an individual takes the opportunity to
change themselves, they realize they can change their environment and
the world around them. People
don't change unless they are challenged, unless they are outside their
comfort zone, and unless they are forced to find constructive answers
for themselves. Effective
and long-lasting change occurs through active participation with the
horses who, as excellent mirrors, reflect back to people who they really
are. With the horses, clients can practice new behaviors in a
therapeutic environment. |

What
is EAP/EAL? |
|
| |
|
First,
you must be introduced to the Equine
Assisted Growth and Learning Association (EAGALA). It is an organization
comprised of both equine specialists and mental health care professionals
who work together in teams alongside horses to facilitate psychotherapy
sessions (Equine Assisted Psychotherapy-EAP). |
|
Horses
are natural helpers who live in the present moment and give immediate,
unfiltered and honest feedback to those around them. They have provided
this feedback and filled this role since the beginning of their existence.
EAGALA, a non-profit organization, has formed to facilitate this
communication exchange in a safe environment with professional guidelines
and practices that are strictly followed by its certified members.
|
|

|
|
Midwest
Country Clinic, LLC facilitates team building events and executive
development using the EAGALA model for Equine Assisted Learning
(EAL). The team is comprised of horses, a licensed psychotherapist,
an equine
specialist and the participant(s) for every session.
We
have experienced an extremely positive response from our participants and
each event or session proves to be more successful than we could ever have
expected. |
No Riding!!!

|
How
does it work? |
|
|
Working
with horses under the guidance of a licensed
counselor and equine specialist, Equine Assisted Psychotherapy, or EAP,
allows people to discover new ways of dealing with and overcoming
problems. EAP paves the way for people to renew their sense of purpose and
direction. EAP participants learn by doing --putting into practice some
new ways of thinking and being.
You
don't have to know anything about horses to gain tremendous benefit from
the horse's feedback. EAP is a powerful interactive approach that allows
you and your therapist/group facilitators to see and reflect on how you react to specific
situations in your daily life. Horses are honest, which makes them
especially powerful messengers. You
immediately see the effects of your actions by how the horse responds to
you.
We
use EAP to treat nearly every problem that is treated in traditional type therapies. Call 1-866-757-3853
to learn more about equine assisted psychotherapy and/or to make an
appointment. |

|
|
This
is not a riding program. No riding
or horse experience is necessary. It is a hands-on experiential
learning modality that allows
natural interaction between humans and horses. |
|
Clients
are given a task to complete that requires approaching and communicating
with another animal, another culture, another species. No instructions are
given on how to complete the task and no time limit is given. |
 |
|
The
client/participant has the freedom to decide how to proceed while
being observed by the facilitators. At appropriate points during and
at the conclusion of each exercise, the facilitators will ask the
clients questions about what they are thinking, feeling, or what they
perceive the horse is thinking, feeling or doing. Their answers
provide amazing insight into how they see themselves and how they
operate when faced with certain situations or decisions. It provides a
unique opportunity for the client to become more self aware and to
recognize the often self-imposed rules that may be preventing success
(as they define it) in their endeavors.

|
Why
use horses? |
|
Historically,
horses have been known for their ability to help people improve the
quality of their lives. Most recently, they have been
recognized for their ability to facilitate personal and professional
growth opportunities in those seeking a deeper understanding of
themselves.
Midwest Country
Clinic provides a safe environment where these four-legged life coaches
can freely interact with clients and empower them to reflect on their
own behaviors or reactions in order to reach a heightened level of
self-awareness. From this place, new tools can be learned and then
applied to life outside of the equine arena.

You can learn a
lot from a horse!
